Your Village Needs Your Support

Having been a member of the Village Hall Committee for some four months now, I can report that the work undertaken on behalf of the village by the long standing members can only be described as awesome! This small band of people meet on a monthly basis to ensure that the North Kyme Village Hall is used to its full potential. Between them they arrange events such as Bingo, Quiz nights, etc and ensure the hall is available for use for all the groups that use it such as Darby and Joan, Bowls, Stitch in Kyme, Mother and Toddler group and so forth.

Seeing the work that went into the recent Village Hall Fete this August was an eye opener. The work started months before the event with arranging the raffle, organizing judges, publicity and then on the day, arranging the tables, taking in entries, refreshments, tombola and everything else that made the day go well.

All the money raised helps with maintain the old village hall and the building/refurbishment of the new village hall. The committee at the moment are trying to raise funds for new fridges/freezers, cutlery, crockery and other items so that once complete, the new village hall can be used to its full potential.

How You Can Help

The committee is always looking for people who can be called on to help with fund raising, be it helping at the bingo, being a committee member or by just supporting by coming to the publicized events such as the quiz nights and bingo.

If you are interested in joining the committee or helping in anyway, please contact Sue Canning on 01526  860788   or come along to the Cheese, Wine and Fun games night on Saturday September 25th at 7.30pm. Please show your support.

North Kyme Walk - Get your walking boots on, collect the dogs, kids and anyone else you can find and meet at the PLOUGH INN on Sunday September 19th @ 11am to walk one or more of the four stages of the North Kyme to South Kyme Walk.  Glynn Pout will be ‘group leader’ and lead the way.  A collection will be made with all proceeds going to the Village Hall fund – why not see if you can get sponsors to raise extra cash for the fund? Maps of the walk can be collected from the Plough or by visiting www.northkyme.com (about our village /walks)

LIFE SKILLS ACADEMY

As most people are aware, the Life Skills Academy is now up and running!  The academy is part of the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership. The academy has plans to expand in the future and I have been promised an exclusive interview with the manger in time for the next news letter. I am aware that once the plans are confirmed and put into place, the academy intend to hold an open day for the villagers and I know that this will be of specially interest to those who went to school there.

The Academy offered activities as well as extra parking if needed on the day of the village fete as well as donating a really useful raffle prize. The academy is more than happy to be included in village events as consider themselves part of the community.

Special Birthdays/Anniversaries/ Events

Please let me know of any special events that are being celebrated and you would like a mention in the news letter. - 01526 – 860309 06 elaine.coton@btinternet.com.

Good Luck Amanda and Mel – Amanda (my daughter) is off to University in Hull to take a teaching Degree and Mel (my daughter in law) is off to University in Lincoln to take a Social Work Degree. I am proud of them both! Who else in the village is off to University soon? Who has done well in Exams? Who has had a new baby? Who’s getting married?

North Kyme Village News

June 2010

Issue 67

What a welcome change to the weather there has been since I last sat down three months ago to write this news letter, and what a lot has happened in and out of the village!

Road Closures

We who have to live or work in the village will have been affected and will continue to be affected by the ongoing teething problems on the A153 from Anwick to Billinghay. Whole sections of road were closed off during the day which isolated and caused hardship for many villagers as well as businesses.

A little more warning of the road works would have been beneficial to all. Because of the road closures and press interest, we now have 3 celebrities in the village who have appeared either in the Press, on TV, radio or all 3. I believe autographs are being sold and in demand!

New Village Hall

As a member of the Village Hall committee, I was, along with other members, Glynn from the Parish Council and the main builder, invited to visit the new village hall site (photo’s on www.northkyme.com) to see just what progression had been made. It really is coming on and I think it will be a great asset to the Village. Bad weather is to blame for the building not being as far advanced as we would have hoped but I am confident that we will definitely have it up and running by the end of the year if not earlier. We still need to raise funds to help with the finer details of refurbishment so your continuing support at village hall events is much needed. Also, any ideas for fund raising will be much appreciated.

Parish Council News

The Parish council held its AGM in April and agreed to keep the positions on the council as they were last year with Glynn Pout being voted to carry on in the position of chairman for one more year.  Many of you will have noticed from time to time a Speed Indicator device in the village.  The parish council has been working on getting this device in the village on a more frequent basis.  We are pleased to say that the SID will now appear in the village several times each month with data from the device being passed on to the council for analysis.  From the preliminary data you may be interested to know that the average speed through the village over a four day period was 36 MPH, with the highest recorded speed being 59 MPH.  When more data is collected the council will be liaising with the police to discuss the problem.  The council has been working on promoting our village within the area and have just publish through NKDC a walks leaflet which takes you from North Kyme to South Kyme, “The long way round” following the course of  the Skirth, Witham and Slea.  This leaflet is available from the Plough and Billinghay parish office.

Plough Charity Calendar

We now have 7 definite models for the calendar and are in need for at least 5 more names before the middle of July! Any profit from the calendar will be donated to the new village hall fund and we can also use it for advertising local businesses. We have a project manager who is raring to go on this, so once we have 12 confirmed models, we will call a meeting and we can discuss how we want to do this – also around publicity, cost etc. You will not need to be an Equity Card holder to appear but decent pecs would be welcomed! Please can any potential models that have not already declared an interest, please do so as soon as possible.

North Kyme Village Youth Club (NKYG)

In talking to some of the older members of our village teenagers, it was discovered that  what they would really like, is a base of their own – somewhere they could go to play pool, have a coffee, watch a film and just be together as a group.  Nick Lamb , who has worked with young people  in the past  as a councilor, trainer and mentor and has a position that allows him to open doors of opportunity and myself, a qualified social worker with over 20 years experience of working with children and young people, put our heads together and came up with the following plan:

If the young ‘older’ people of the village were interested, we could facilitate arranged activities such as going carting, paint balling etc but the money to finance this must be raised by the children themselves. We spoke to 3 of our 17 year olds who in turn spoke to others and the NORTH KYME YOUTH GROUP was formed.  Currently on the committee we have Nick Lamb, Martin (who started up the original Youth group in North Kyme), Jap who has worked with young people for many years,  Myself (Elaine) a qualified social worker and representing the young people of the village, Jade, Jonathan and Dan. A car wash was arranged in early May and it was explained that only young people who helped on the day would be able to participate in an event paid for by the money raised. The youngsters undertook their own publicity and over a fairly busy weekend, supervised in the main by Nick Lamb, managed to raise in excess of £200.00.  A raffle held on the Saturday night in the Plough with a gift donated from Mrs. – raised a further £34.00. Nick donated £50.00 as he promised to do this if the group raised over £100.00  and for hiring Nick’s pressure washer, another £20.00 was raised.  A big thank you to all who supported the car wash by bringing their cars along. An evening for 10 young people to go Go Karting has been arranged for later this month – if any adults would like to join in, please contact Nick or Bob at the Plough.

Nick and Bob from the Plough have been in ‘talks’ with the pubco. Who own the Plough and they have agreed to rent the garage out to the North Kyme Youth Group for a nominal fee.  So with the help of the village youths, it should not be too much longer before there will be a purpose built youth club.

The whole  emphasis of the NKYC is for the older, more responsible young people to take responsibility for managing the raising of funds, organizing events, etc but obviously, we need adult expertise to facilitate this so if you would be able to offer 2 or 3 hours a week occasionally to helping , please contact Nick , Martin, Jap  or myself. We especially need adults with skills such as carpentry, brick laying etc that can be taught to young people. Once up and running, we would hope that activities would/could be arranged for the younger children in the village.

Please can I take this opportunity to confirm that while the proposed youth club building is in the pub grounds, it will have no association with the pub and those under 18 will not be sold alcohol! Nor will alcohol be allowed in the club.

North Kyme Walk -

Get your walking boots on, collect the dogs, kids and anyone else you can find and meet at the PLOUGH INN on Sunday July 11th at 11am to walk one or more of the four stages of the North Kyme to South Kyme Walk.  Glynn Pout will be ‘group leader’ and lead the way.  A collection will be made with all proceeds going to the Village Hall fund – why not see if you can get sponsors to raise extra cash for the fund.  Maps of the walk can be collected from the Plough or by visiting www.northkyme.com

NEW YEAR, NEW EDITOR, NEW VILLAGE HALL

I was privileged to be asked to edit the North Kyme Newsletter in early December 2009. Therefore, it is my fault entirely that this newsletter is two months old. I can offer no excuse other than  I have spent may hours planning  the content  and not enough time on the actual ‘production’. From now on you have my assurance that you will receive the letter bi monthly as always.

I am aware that I am taking over the reins from Di Goddard who has donated a lot of time and expertise to the editing of the newsletter and I can only hope that  I will be able to make a good a job of it as she has. Di is a hard act to follow and I am sure I will be seeking her advice and support in my role as Editor.

If you have any items for inclusion in the newsletter or any regular features you would like to see included, please feel free to contact me either by E mail at Elaine.coton@btinternet.com , by phone on 01526 860309 or by calling in at the Plough

.

Annual Village Meeting

03 May 2010   North Kyme Village Hall

The Annual Village Meeting is to be held this year on 3rd May (bank holiday Monday)

Every year every parish in the country is obliged to hold a village meeting.  The format of these meetings is very informal, it gives the village a chance to ask the chairman of the parish council questions about anything they think should, shouldn’t, could, couldn’t be happening in North Kyme.  As well as this question and answer session the afternoon is hosting a theme of “North Kyme, Past present and future”.  Displays will be set up in the village hall starting with old village photos and artefacts then spanning the years to a display of the latest projects and groups in the village, showing what we would like to achieve in North Kyme.  The display will be open from 3 PM with questions to the chairman starting at 6.PM.   A small finger buffet will be provided as well as free refreshments.  As always it will be a very interesting afternoon, so please come along, either to look over the displays or to make your views be known to the Parish Council.

 New Village Hall

At the village hall AGM held on February 24th, it was announced that the new village hall should hopefully be ‘up and operational’ by the end of June, early July 2010. There are enough funds to complete the build and all that we are waiting for is an improvement in the weather before the concrete base can be laid. Regular updates and a history of the village hall are available on the North Kyme web site.

There may be an overlap when the old hall is sold and the new hall not quite ready for use, but in this event groups will be able to use either the new driving school buildings on Main Street, the Church or a room at the Plough.

In order to celebrate the closing of the old  hall and the opening of the new , the committee are looking to hold two major events to be held in each hall. They would welcome any suggestions on how these events could be celebrated. If you have any memories or photographs of the old village hall and its predecessor, please let me know.
